Hey,
I just wanted to provide some of the reasons why I believe the Community Experience Masterclass from Jono Bacon is worth our investment of $1995.
To provide some context, the purpose of the masterclass is to 'build a new community or optimize an existing community in 10 weeks'.
It is led by
Jono Bacon, who has over 22 years of experience building communities, having led community at Canonical, GitHub, and XPRIZE, who is the author of 'People Powered' and 'The Art of Community', and who has worked with over 300 companies including AirBnb, HackerOne, Microsoft, Niantic, and many others.
Here are the reasons I feel this would be a worthwhile investment:
* Clarity Of Focus - Jono has built hundreds of communities, including communities in our space. His guidance and direction of what works and get results will be invaluable. Otherwise, we run the risk of too much time-consuming and expensive experimentation.
* Getting Results Faster - one thing I am worried about is how long it takes to assemble best practices in community management from videos, books, articles, and more. Jono has packaged up his methodology into a 10 week program with clear training, activities, workbooks, cheatsheets and more...and I think this will be a faster way for us to spin up the skills we need.
* Greater Weekly Efficiency - one element of the masterclass that is very attractive are the "workflows" Jono teaches covering content creation, building engagement, growth, metrics analysis/reviews, and more. We could try to build these workflows ourselves, but I suspect they will be slower and more inefficient, rather than starting with Jono's workflows garnered from his extensive experience.
* Reducing Community Risk - one thing that worries me is the risk of a community failure. This can result in frustrated members, a bad experience, and a bad reflection of our brand. A key element of Jono's masterclass is in mitigating risk, and I think this will be invaluable to ensure we optimize for success.
* Hands On - the masterclass is delivered via live training sessions on Zoom where Jono will answer questions (which are all recorded) and there are also working sessions where we ask questions, gather feedback, and test ideas. I think this will be very helpful in aligning Jono's approach to our goals in an environment where we don't just learn, but we implement and grow.
* Part of a Cohort - one of the most interesting elements of the masterclass is that we will be part of a broader group of students where we can learn and grow together. I think this can be a great source of other ideas and input (and motivating and cheering each other on.)
* 1-on-1 Access to Jono - included in the masterclass is unlimited 1-on-1 email access to Jono (where he often responds with video responses). Given his extensive experience, I believe being able to get his input on our work will be invaluable (and much cheaper than hiring him as a consultant.)
Overall, I feel the $1995 will be very worthwhile in providing clarity on what we should focus on, how to get results faster, how to deliver better operational efficiency, and reduce risk.
While I would join the live sessions, all of the material is recorded and available in a student dashboard, and we never lose access to it after the 10 week program ends.
What's more, Jono has a generous refund policy - if we work through the masterclass and we are not satisfied, he will provide a full refund.
Hope this was useful. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Would you be happy for us to invest in this masterclass? I know it feels up quickly...so I would like to reserve a place soon if you are happy for us to proceed.
Thanks!
